Urgent repairs to the breeding facilities for two ASAP bird species at Angkor Centre for Conservation of Biodiversity

The emergency

Angkor Centre for Conservation of Biodiversity (ACCB) holds the only conservation breeding programme for these two species. Aviaries were originally built using locally-sourced wire, but this was disintergrating rapidly. There was a risk of birds becoming injured and/or escaping.

Results

The breeding facilities for Bengal Florican and White-shouldered Ibis were repaired and upgraded with UV resistant materials. This has mitigated an acute risk to the safety of the captive birds and has also increased the long-term viability of the programme's infrastructure. This will lead to more consistent breeding outcomes.
