The emergency

A small lowland Tamaraw population persists in Aruyan-Malati. However, the ongoing loss of its lowland habitats, and the expansion of agriculture, puts the population at immediate risk of conflict with local communities. Several affected farmers reported crop losses in 2023. There was an urgent need to work with the relevant local authorities and produce mitigation measures that would sufficiently reduce conflict.
