Mission statement

The Sumatran Orangutan Society is committed to supporting frontline and community-connected organisations to protect, create and rewild rainforests in Sumatra using innovative and locally sensitive approaches that give orangutans the opportunity to thrive in extensive areas of wild habitat.

SOS works with local, forest-edge communities in Northern Sumatra to help them benefit from conservation activity and act as forest guardians. We actively campaign in the UK, Sumatra and internationally against policies and practices which threaten the survival of the orangutan in the wild.
