Investigating the illegal trade in Vietnamese Crested Argus

The emergency

In late 2021, Annamite Crested Argus was detected in the illegal wildlife trade. It had been trafficked from Vietnam to Indonesia. This was the first time the species had been detected in the international illegal wildlife trade, and there was an urgent need to understand the trade dynamics so that enforcement and policy recommendations could be produced.

Results

Information on the trade in Annamite Crested Argus was collected in Indonesia through interviews and online surveys. This information has been used to gain a greater understanding of the trade dynamics between Vietnam and Indonesia in pheasant species.
