Project aims

  • Collect baseline ecology data on Bleeding Toad and on other species in the Leptophryne genus

  • Design facilities for keeping and breeding representatives of the Leptophyrne genus

Results

  • Surveys undertaken in West Java for three Leptophryne species (including the target ASAP Species) have been used to help inform the design of an ex situ programme for Bleeding Toad

  • Established the Herpetological Conservation Breeding Laboratory at IPB University, Bogor, managed in collaboration with the Indonesia Herpetofauna Foundation

  • 20 Leptophyrne borbonica were collected from the wild for breeding trials, with the aim of eventually applying any protocols developed to the more threatened Bleeding Toad
