Cat Ba Langur Conservation Project
Mission statement
The Cat Ba Langur Conservation Project is a German sponsored conservation project that was founded in 2000 by ZGAP and the Allwetterzoo Münster to address the issues of declining biodiversity on Cat Ba Island, and the imminent extinction of the Critically Endangered Cat Ba Langur. As of January 2019 the primary sponsor of the CBLCP is Zoo Leipzig
Our work focuses on the conservation of the Cat Ba Langur, its habitat, and the over-all biodiversity of the region. We operate three locally based anti-poaching teams, have a team of local Langur Guards who work with us and park rangers to protect langur areas, provide a significant amount of support to Cat Ba National Park to ensure that they are able to fulfil their conservation requirements, and have an environmental literacy program in all the schools on Cat Ba.

Earlier this year, a significant breakthrough was made in one of the projects funded by ASAP’s Species Conservation Fund. After a long search, the dedicated team rediscovered the very first specimen of an Mesilau Stream Toad, thought to have been lost to science.
