About Us

BISA INDONESIA'S PROFILE

The environment comprises of everything that creates a unit of space, with the elements, powers, and living creatures including human and its behaviour which affects the human life itself as well as other creatures. The environment is divided into 3 components, that is natural environment (ecosystem), artificial environment (technosystem), and social environment (sociosystem). Nature and all of its elements is an inseparable unit. Every element is interrelated with one another.

Disharmony in the human-nature relationship (natural resource exploitation) creates lots of predicaments. Economic development often means ecological decline, aside from the fact that environmental quality is equally vital to economic advancement. Economic advancement through environmental service could benefit people's livelihood. On the other hand, change, degradation, decline, or even destruction of the environment has become a major threat for communities. There is a pressing need to restore the role of the ecosystem, technosystem, and sociosystem in life in order to maintain nature preservation and human prosperity.

BISA Indonesia is a non-profit organization working for environmental and social issues. Established in the Special Region of Yogyakarta on 1 February 2016, and holds a Notarial Deed no.66 of 7 November 2017. BISA Indonesia is officially registered at the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights no. AHU-0016252-AH.01.07 of 2017 as an organization based on Pancasila and Constitution.

ASAP Species That We Work On

What We Do

Gray-backed Myna / Black-winged Myna, Rufous-fronted laughingthrush, Javan Green Magpie, and Javan Blue-banded Kingfisher is the most Critically endangered bird in Indonesia. The trend of bird-keeper in the Javanese community is an activity that has passed down for generations. It was this activity which then encouraged the hunting and trade of birds on the island of Java.

Witnessing this happening, we tried to map out the main problems with the never-ending rate of bird trade. Since 2019 we have focused regularly on monitoring the bird market for endangered species and for song-bird community. The main purpose of the monitoring results can be used as data to determine conservation strategies for endangered species in Indonesia.

As for bleeding toad (Leptophryne javanica), it occurs only in Ciremai mountain and slamet mountain) we are still focused to initiate further research activities because information about this species is still very limited so we focus on basic research. The main purpose from this project we can use the data and all of information about this species is to determine conservation strategies in the future.

And one important purpose, in the conservation effort for critically endangered species we always involve local communities in around the area we were work. Community involvement is very important, why? With local communities directly involved, we hope that this project can be sustainable.

Where We Work

All around Indonesia, but currently we are focus in Java
